Canada Day 2013 Fireworks

Canada Day in Victoria! It’s always a good time here – roads are closed, lots of people wandering around, good eats, live music, and fireworks. And to top it all off, the weather was amazing! I decided to head downtown to do some wandering… Sooo here’s the pics!

There’s another blog post I wrote for the live music portion. You can take a look at the pictures by clicking this link. There was live music all day, but I showed up later and saw Caracol, Acres of Lions, Odds, and Hey Ocean! It was a pretty stacked lineup, so it was loads of fun taking pictures!

After the concerts, I quickly got out of there and relocated for the fireworks. As I was about halfway to the spot I wanted to go, the fireworks started, so I had no choice but to set up shop nearby. The pictures turned out alright I think…

Canada Day 2013 Music In Victoria

Canada Day in Victoria! I decided to head downtown to check out some live music in front of the parliament buildings. The lineup was pretty stacked, and the best part was…. It was free! Live shows were going on throughout the whole day, but I got there around after dinner time. I had to get an awesome spot for taking pics, so I showed up a little bit earlier.  The first band I checked out was Caracol – a folk/pop band from Montreal. They were pretty good. Great harmonies and songs! Definitely worth checking out (http://www.caracolmusique.com)

Next band was a local Victoria group, Acres of Lions – a pop/rock band. They’re always having fun on stage and have catchy tunes. I’ve always loved photographing this band live. It’s really cool seeing the progress they’ve made in the music scene. (http://www.acresoflions.com)

The Odds… Vancouver band!! It’s really awesome seeing more bigger bands come to Victoria. I only know a couple of their songs (and they played them all), but they were definitely entertaining live – a good sense of humour, talented musicians, and they’re just having fun. They may seem like they’re serious, but they’re really not. (http://www.oddsmusic.com)

Hey Ocean! Another Vancouver band (pop/rock)! I’ve been listening to their stuff for a while now, and have been wanting to see them live. This was my chance. I love their songs, Ashleigh’s (lead singer) voice, her mannerisms on stage, the harmonies, and the energy. They sure know how to entertain the crowd. I’m soooo glad I got to finally see them live! Definitely a highlight. They’re also a super fun band to photograph live as well. There were so many awesome pictures!  (http://www.loveheyocean.com)

Keep an eye out for the next blog post – more Canada Day pictures!!

Canada Day 2012

Hope you all had an awesome Canada Day! I stuck around Victoria and decided to hang out downtown. I love it here especially when big holidays like these happen – everyone is wearing red and white, downtown is packed with people, roads are closed so you can wander freely, live music, and so much more! It’s always a great time hanging out here on Canada Day. Here’s some proof:

Pretty good spots for watching the fireworks! Patiently waiting as the skies are getting darker.

I don’t know how every year, the fireworks get better and better. Maybe I just love fireworks, and how loud it is, the different colours, and the rumble you can feel in your chest. It almost seems magical. Can’t wait for next year’s fireworks display!

Canada Day 2011!

Late Saturday night update!! Hey everyone, sorry it took me this long to post up the pictures from Canada Day (July 1st)… I get distracted easily. But thought I’d do an update before I leave for a camping/rock climbing trip at Nanaimo River!

Anyways, Matt and I got annual passes at Butchart Gardens recently, so we thought might as well go check out the gardens again. This time I came prepared with my 50mm lens. I thought it would be good practice for me and it’s a great place for it in my opinion. When Matt and I got there, we obviously rode the carousel, and this time the roses are in full bloom! Sooo beautiful!

Afterwards, Matt and I met up with people from his church and we all had a potluck dinner, then we all headed downtown to hang out and watch the fireworks. I think every year the fireworks get better and better! (Note to self: use manual setting next time you take pictures of fireworks). These next pictures were taken with my Sigma 10-20mm lens.

Hope you all enjoyed this as much as I enjoyed taking these pics. But I’m gonna grab some sleep now. Leaving tomorrow to Nanaimo River… Be back on Tuesday night probably!! Keep checking back.

Week 17 – Canada Day

Matt and I hung out for a bit, and I figured I might as well try some HDR pics. We went up to Butchart Gardens and rode the carousel which is always awesome. I dunno if this turned out alright or not… Too much?

After that we headed over to a potluck dinner at Matt’s church, and then walked downtown to check out the fireworks. I must say I definitely need A LOT more practice that’s for sure. I kind of like this HDR pic of fireworks, but I thought it could’ve been better. I still like it though…
